FAQ's

At Kidz World, we maintain teacher-to-child ratios that exceed Ministry of Education minimum requirements, ensuring every child receives the attention and support they need throughout the day. By maintaining these generous ratios, our teachers can engage deeply with children’s learning, provide individualised guidance, and create a safe, nurturing environment for all age groups.

In a play-based setting, structured learning is woven naturally into the activities and routines children take part in each day. Teachers intentionally design the environment, resources, and experiences so that key learning areas—such as early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, social skills, and physical development—happen through meaningful play.

Structured learning is provided through:

  • Planned experiences that target specific skills (e.g., puzzles, counting games, storytelling, art and fine motor activities)
  • Small-group times where teachers introduce concepts, language, and ideas in an age-appropriate way
  • Daily routines that build self-help skills, independence, and confidence
  • Teacher guidance during play, where educators extend children’s thinking, introduce new vocabulary, or support children to experiment and explore
  • Purposeful environments set up with learning goals in mind

This approach ensures children learn important skills in a way that feels engaging, natural, and enjoyable—supporting strong development while maintaining the child-led, exploratory nature of play.

We provide a nutritious, balanced menu to support children’s growth, development, and energy levels. Our lunch menu includes hot cooked soups, casseroles and pasta dishes, sandwiches and wraps. Morning and afternoon teas always feature fresh fruit and include healthy snacks like yoghurt, cheese, hummus, tuna, home baked bread and baking. Twice a week our older children also take part in baking for their morning or afternoon tea.

Water is available to children throughout the day. Older children are encouraged to help themselves, while our younger tamariki are supported by teachers. Water is also offered at all meals and snack times.

We aim to provide meals that are nutritious, appealing, and help children build healthy eating habits from an early age.

Friday Lunchbox Day

Every Friday, children bring their own lunchbox from home. This helps them practise the skills they will need when they go to school — opening packets, managing containers, eating from a lunchbox, and becoming confident with their lunchtime routines.

Homemade Baby Mash

For our youngest tamariki who are just beginning solids, we prepare fresh, homemade baby mash using only vegetables — with no preservatives, no colours, and no additives. Our blend often includes potato, kumara, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, silverbeet and other seasonal vegetables. These are cooked and pureed to a smooth consistency, making them gentle and easy for babies to enjoy as they begin their eating journey.

No — Kidz World remains open throughout all school holidays. We only close on Public Holidays during the year. This means families can rely on consistent care and routine for their children, regardless of the school holiday schedule.

To enrol your child at Kidz World, we’ll need a few key documents to complete their enrolment and meet Ministry of Education requirements. These include:

  • An identification document for your child, such as a birth certificate or passport
  • A copy of any parenting or custody order, if one is in place

Our team will also provide you with the required enrolment and attendance forms to complete. If you need help with any of the documents or have questions about the process, we’re always happy to assist.

20 Hours ECE is a government-funded programme that helps cover the cost of early childhood education for children aged three to six years. All eligible children can receive up to 20 hours of free early learning each week, for a maximum of six hours per day.

You don’t need to be working or studying to receive 20 Hours ECE — it is available to all families once their child turns three.

Families can choose how to use these hours across the week, depending on their child’s booking. The funding is paid directly to the early childhood centre and reduces the amount parents need to pay for those hours.

20 hours ECE can be used in conjunction with a longer booking, you can see the fees for longer bookings for children claiming 20 Hours ECE on our fees page. Learn more about 20 hours funding for early childhood education
