Junk Play
Junk play allows chidlren the freedom to explore and discover their capablitites, to solve problems and to develop self-awareness and self-confidence.
Junk play involves the playing with everyday objects found around us, such as cardboard boxes, bricks of diffect sizes, bottles, etc. Hollow blocks can be used with planks, boxes, hessian, canvas, steering wheels, tyres, ropes, reels, crates and whatever can be produced at the carpenter's bench to make a ship, car, den, zoo, house, or an engine.
When I am engaged in junk play, I am:
- Developing my imagination and creativity
- Learning planning skills
- Learning how to improvise
- Learning language skills
- Developing social skills such as sharing and co-operation
- Developing the habit of being physically active
- Developing self confidence and initiative
- Developing increased understanding through participation, thinking, experimentation and construction
